LOVE LETTER is based on a strange premise of unlikely coincidence. Love Letter is Shunji Iwai's poem about grieving and memoir, and despite being set in a strong winter and covered in snow, it feels like a very warm movie to watch. When she comes across his old address in his high school yearbook, Fujii's mother tells her that the house was demolished for a highway years ago. Two years after his death, Itsuki Fujii's fiance Hiroko (Miho Nakayama) is still having a hard time moving on with her life. For Hiroko (singer Miho Nakayama plays double roles here), it’s two year since her ex-husband passed away from mountain climbing but she still can’t leave his memory behind. Hiroko Watanabe and Itsuki Fujii exchange correspondences about a past mutual love of theirs, and the film wanders on Itsuki's reminescence of this college boy she once knew, giving those memories to the one who'd eventually become his … In Love Letter, memories play as an integral element, in which Iwai takes his inspiration from Remembrance Of Things Past by Marcel Proust.
